Yellow Gold

Gold, a metal of History. The most common metal for jewelry, but pure Gold is almost not used for jewelry. Pure Gold (24 karat), is too soft and not strong enough to be forged in jewelry. That's why 18k gold (75%) and 14k gold (58.3%) are preferred.

Other metals such as Silver and Copper are added to make a gold jewel stronger.

The purity of gold is measured in karat, don't confuse it with carat, used to express a diamond weight.

White Gold

The properties of Yellow Gold apply to White Gold. It is also used in 18k and 14k and alloyed with white metals : Silver of course, but Platinum too.

Nowadays, White Gold is more popular than Yellow Gold. This is a white metal, similar to Platinum that reflects light very well. This characteristic accentuates the sparkle of a diamond.

Platinum

The strongest metal. Fine Platinum jewelry is generally composed of 95% Platinum, or 90%. This is the most pure metal in jewelry, very scartch and tarnish-resistant.

It's heavier than gold and rarer too and obviously more expensive. A perfect metal for diamond jewelry, it enhances the brilliance and sparkle of diamond.
